首先介紹材料科學與材料工程的差異與重要性，同時介紹各類工程用材料的種類與應用範疇。接下來從原子單元開始介紹材料的晶體結構與缺陷的觀念，並配合材料機械性質與相圖的介紹，來說明材料結構與機械性質的關係。最後將介紹材料相變態與熱處理製程應用，讓同學了解各種工程用材料的製程、結構與材料性質間之關聯性。

一、材料科學介紹與原子結構：包括(1)材料科學與工程簡介；(2)原子結構與原子間的鍵結。
二、晶體結構與缺陷原理：包括(1)結晶固體的結構；(2)固體的不完整性與缺陷。
三、材料機械性質與強化原理：包括(1)金屬的機械性質及(2)差排與強化機構。
四、材料破損簡介：包括(1)破裂的原理簡介；(2)疲勞破損簡介；及(3)材料高溫潛變行為介紹。
五、相圖應用、相變態及熱處理實務簡介：包括(1)相圖簡介與應用；(2)金屬相變態反應簡介；及(3)熱處理製程技術介紹。
六、相關工程材料簡介及實務應用：含(1)金屬材料、(2)陶瓷材料、(3)高分子材料及(4)複合材料簡介與應用。
