課程概述
This is the first semester of a four semester program designed to help students get ready for studying abroad. Students will work on improving their academic speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
課程目標
To improve students' English language skills so that they can meet a foreign university's TOEFL requirements.

To generally improve all areas of their English in order to be better prepared to attend a university in an English speaking country.

To improve their academic listening, reading, speaking and writing and learn how to integrate these skills.

It is very important that students work to build vocabulary. A good vocabulary is essential to passing the TOEFL.

Students will learn both skills and strategies for reading, listening to lectures, note-taking, as well as how to participate in discussions and write a 4-paragraph TOEFL essay.

LISTENING:

NOTE-TAKING:
Writing down the most important words and ideas during a lecture
Using notes to summarize a lecture
Using an informal outline to take notes
Using symbols to represent words in notes
Using abbreviations instead of full words in your notes

INTEGRATED SPEAKING:
Showing interest during a discussion
Discussing ideas heard during a lecture
Expressing interest and asking for elaboration
Interrupting and asking for clarification during a discussion
Asking for more info during a discussion

INDPENDENT SPEAKING:
Expressing opinions and preferences
Explaining and giving reasons for opinions and preferences

WRITING:
Focus on independent writing task in TOEFL
Using topic sentences and supporting details in a paragraph
